From Local Roots to Coastal Change
We began with a simple observation: the coast we love is being lost to the plastic we carry. Our journey started as a grassroots movement in South Carolina, driven by a shared belief that our future depends on a cleaner, more sustainable present.
The First Coast Initiative was born from that passion. We are dedicated to transitioning our communities to biodegradable cutlery and eliminating coastal plastic pollution. Together, we are building a legacy of environmental stewardship for generations to come.
Our Roadmap to Zero Plastic Pollution
Phase 1: Policy Advocacy
We are working with local government to draft and pass legislation mandating biodegradable cutlery for all coastal restaurants and businesses.
Phase 2: Industry Transition
We provide technical support and funding to help local vendors transition their current plastic supplies to certified compostable alternatives.
Phase 3: Public Awareness
We launch a statewide educational campaign to inform the public about the benefits of biodegradable cutlery and how to properly dispose of it.
Phase 4: Coastal Cleanup
We coordinate with community groups to conduct regular cleanup drives, ensuring that the transition leads to a visibly cleaner coast.
